Happy 40 year “Srefidensi” for Suriname

Srefidensi 40 jaar

Today Suriname and Surinamese people around the globe celebrate 40 years of independence, in the Surinamese language known as “Srefidensi”. On this 40 year Srefidensi we celebrate our independence from the Netherlands. Being out here in the cold of the Netherlands, I can only imagine the celebrations that are going on across the Atlantic down there in Suriname, especially in Paramaribo, the capital city. #WBD: Flormar Bohemian Dream Collection

Bohemian-Dream-Collection 2015

My first encounter with Flormar was during my last visit to Barcelona, Spain. As I was walking by this colourful make-up store, I couldn’t help stepping inside. Right then and there I fell in love with the brand and became a member right after I bought some cute colours of nail polish. Ever since then I’ve been getting these newsletters from them, which I don’t understand one single word from, since they’re in Spanish. So If I want to know what they say, I have to Google translate. But sometimes I do get a video! Continue reading “#WBD: Flormar Bohemian Dream Collection”

20150123_202916

The 22nd edition of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam (MBFWA) is a fact. It was a wonderful fashion event that included 5 days of catwalk shows by talented and popular Dutch fashion designers at Transformatorhuis at the Westergasterrein in Amsterdam. Lucky me got to see two catwalk shows and was invited to one of the events of the Zalando 10 Days Downtown program. Throwback Thursday: My army three-piece swimsuit

Before I share all  the posts about Barcelona and my birthday last month, I wanted to give you a throw back to six years ago in the summer time. It was the weekend of the annual reggae summer festival Reggae Sundance in Eersel, Netherlands. For that weekend I was staying with a small group at 4 star hotel NH Geldrop, not far from the festival. They have a wonderful pool and jacuzzi at this hotel and of course I had to take me a little dip in both. Continue reading “Throwback Thursday: My army three-piece swimsuit”

Highlights of AFWA 2014 fashion shows day 2

20140831_200617

Day two of Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam in World Fashion Centre was more glitter and glamour since it was the day of the Gala Show.  This meant various fashion shows with beautiful designs of the more upscale African designers, of which you could see the difference with day one. Before the fashion shows started there were some speeches that didn’t go entirely as planned, leaving the presenter to improvise which he did well. After that the doors to the runway area were closed for the preparation of the first two fashion shows and there was time for a network and photo break. Then it was Gala Show time. Dare to go bare: the reveal and the real

Bare Beauty 1

Last week I posted some pictures of me going natural with no make up on in a beauty post. With this post I was trying to inspire ladies to go au naturel and leave their make up in the make up bag for a change. To dare to go bare and be a bare beauty. But, actually no make up wasn’t entirely true. As you can clearly see on this photo above, I was wearing something. Can you guess what it is?? Travel Diary: An afternoon in Lier, Belgium

20140705_152220

Happy Sunday everybody. Hopefully you guys enjoyed your weekend, cause I did, and I’ll tell you about this weekend soon. Today I would like to introduce you to a new series that I’m starting on the blog, which is called Travel Diary. In these diaries I will share photos of the cities and places I went recently or in the past (to give you a little throwback) since I like to travel, and give you an idea of places you can go also, if you know these places already you might discover new things to do on a next visit. Depending on how much you like the series, I will do this more often. Kicking it off with a place in Belgium called Lier, which I visited last month with family, as we went on an organised bus trip. Flashback Friday: Blue dress and a blonde weave

100_2104

Giving you a few snapshots of the look I had on a birthday six years ago. This photo was taken at a restaurant in one of my favourite places in the Netherlands, that gives me the ultimate holiday/ bday weekend feeling: Scheveningen. This is a place in The Hague with the most wonderful boulevard in all of Holland. We had dinner at Masada Grill and I had my favourite food: pasta! Putting some Reggae in to it

AMS Reggae Festival (2)

The weekend before the Keti Koti Festival I went to another festival in Amsterdam where it was all about good reggae music. The first edition of the Amsterdam Reggae Village, an indoor festival in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam Southeast. A friend of mine actually invited me on Facebook to join this event. Still in Jamaica mode after my trip, I was very thrilled to read about it, and visited the website immediately. As a reggae lover I couldn’t miss the first edition of this reggae festival and of course said yes to the invitation.  Continue reading “Putting some Reggae in to it”

Lets get wild at Keti Koti Festival with Sonia Noel

First Resort by Sonia Noel (7)

On July first the Surinamese people celebrate the abolition of Slavery in Suriname. This is a very big celebration in Suriname and a National Holiday. In the Netherlands there are also celebrations of this historic occurrence for all the Surinamese people who live here. Little history class: Suriname was a colony of the Netherlands and became independent on November 25, 1975. That day is our very own Independence Day, our 4th of July. But that’s a whole nother story. On July 1st we celebrate the emancipation of our black ancestors and our freedom. The biggest celebration is the Keti Koti Festival in Amsterdam at Oosterpark, a big park in Amsterdam East. On this day I couldn’t think of anything better to wear then a piece by one of my favorite Caribbean designers, a powerful black woman, the very talented miss Sonia Noel.
