CFS-MBFWA websiteWeeks ago we’ve met the designers who are going to wow us with their stunning mid- high fashion designer pieces at the first Caribbean fashion show during Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Sadly, one of them has cancelled, so the show will go on with five designers instead of six. That should not stop the fun! Because this time I am gonna let you meet the next best thing after the gorgeous designs. The Caribbean and exotic looking models! Jamaica Nostalgia: one year after

20140610_201635

Last year on June 10, I was on my way as part of Caribbean Fashion Spot (CFS) to Jamaica for the Caribbean Fashion Week in Kingston. This week I’m feeling a little nostalgic and like to look back on the great time I had during this “workaction”, starting with the trip to Kingston. The best trips are those of which you mix business with pleasure. If someone would’ve told me that one year later CFS would be in the middle of organizing its own Caribbean fashion show during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam (MBFWA), I would not have believed them. Six designers in the mid- and high segment will be showing their beautiful and inspiring collection on Saturday July 11, 2015 in the ‘Gashouder’, both clothing and accessories. The fashion labels that will be featured are all very different from one another, but all have that Caribbean touch to it.

Successful casting call for the Caribbean Fashion Show

Casting Call CFS (5)

In my special post of ten days ago I was talking about the model casting call of Caribbean Fashion Spot for the upcoming Caribbean Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam. This casting day was held on Saturday, April 4 at South East in Amsterdam Southeast and was very successful, much to our content. Over 70 models came to our casting call, some with lots of runway experience, some with experience in photoshoots and add campaigns, some with a combination of everything and some with no modelling experience at all, but a very good motivation. All candidates that are worth to be considered for the job. Continue reading “Successful casting call for the Caribbean Fashion Show”

Caribbean Fashion Fundraiser

Caribbean Fashion Show Shoko

Hello my dear readers. In this post I would kindly like to ask you all for a favour and hope you can help out. As you may know, I am the PR Executive of Caribbean Fashion Spot, something I have talked about a few times before and you can read on the “About Me” page. Caribbean Fashion Spot, published by a young Dutch international (online) marketing and PR company ‘IRC’, is an online medium that promotes Caribbean fashion and recently also organizes fashion events to put the Caribbean fashion industry more in the spotlight in Europe. We would like to include the Caribbean fashion in the international fashion weeks in Europe to raise more brand awareness and exposure for Caribbean fashion brands. Caribbean Fashion Bloggers group

Attention Caribbean fashion bloggers (and fashion blog lovers)! With a new year comes new endeavours. Since I’ve been walking around with the idea to start a community of fashion bloggers, I  started to think of one that is not out there yet. After looking at the communities that are already up and running, it suddenly hit me. So recently, on January 2, I started a Facebook group called Caribbean Fashion … Continue reading Caribbean Fashion Bloggers group

Dope street style at Kwaku Summer Festival in Amsterdam

Kwaku Podium

Kwaku Summer Festival is an annual Surinamese themed summer festival that is being held in Amsterdam Southeast (The Bijlmer) for a few weekends, on Saturday on Sunday, in a row. This used to be six weekends, but this year the festival was open for five weekends. From July 12 – August 10, visitors of Kwaku were able to enjoy good music, entertainment, shopping at different booths and of course good Surinamese food, and lots of it. Typical Surinamese dishes, snacks, pastry, drinks (Parbo Bier) and desserts are yours for the choosing. And a lot of BBQ. If you want a taste of the Surinamese culture Kwaku is the place to be. At Kwaku you can experience a little bit of Suriname without actually taking that trip all the way to South America. Besides Surinamese food and other Caribbean food, there is also African food and Dutch food and since it’s summer time you can find fresh tropical fruits and fruit juices at several fruit booths. Double slit maxi and representing at Summer Carnaval in Rotterdam

Maxi Su (1)

Good evening from my cosy couch. While I’m on the topic of events these past days, I wanted to share the look I was sporting at another event this summer. Only this time we’re taking it to Rotterdam instead of Amsterdam. Just like you might have seen I’m spending quite a lot of time in Amsterdam, visiting events and festivals, but not so much in Rotterdam. Well what can I say. I Love Amsterdam! But once a year I clear my schedule till early in the evening for my favorite event of the summer. The Summer Carnaval. As a Caribbean/ South American girl, music, dancing, parades and good food is in my blood. Like every year you could find me in Rotterdam for the Summer Carnaval, which was exactly a month ago today. Lets get wild at Keti Koti Festival with Sonia Noel

First Resort by Sonia Noel (7)

On July first the Surinamese people celebrate the abolition of Slavery in Suriname. This is a very big celebration in Suriname and a National Holiday. In the Netherlands there are also celebrations of this historic occurrence for all the Surinamese people who live here. Little history class: Suriname was a colony of the Netherlands and became independent on November 25, 1975. That day is our very own Independence Day, our 4th of July. But that’s a whole nother story. On July 1st we celebrate the emancipation of our black ancestors and our freedom. The biggest celebration is the Keti Koti Festival in Amsterdam at Oosterpark, a big park in Amsterdam East. On this day I couldn’t think of anything better to wear then a piece by one of my favorite Caribbean designers, a powerful black woman, the very talented miss Sonia Noel.
