Good news for African fashion lovers! After New York, Paris, Berlin, Prague and London it’s up to Amsterdam to host the Africa Fashion Week (AFWA 2014) that will take place in the World Fashion Centre. On August 30 and 31 there will be 20 African and African inspired designers showing the beauty of African couture, art and fashion to a European and global audience. And how pleased am I to tell you that I will attend this first time event in the Dutch Capital to capture all the best moments for you.
Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam is an initiative from Diana Tambe, a multiple award-winning fashion designer and celebrity stylist. The mission of AFWA is to discover, showcase and inspire fashion talent in and from Africa as well as from the rest of the world, with the ultimate vision to empower African designers, highlighting their contributions to the fashion industry and branding African countries as global players in fashion, art and culture. Because I love the initiative to bring Africa to the rest of the world and believe in the vision they have, I volunteered to be a part of this event as well as registered as press and media. On Saturday I will be one of the hostesses to the guests and be of assistance anywhere I can. Whereas on Sunday I will be there as press to cover this event as the fashion and lifestyle editor for Caribbean Fashion Spot, and independent editor for XX Fashion Diva.
AFWA 2014 will be a three day event from Fri. Aug 29 – Sun.Aug 31, with on Friday a public expo of African couture around the city of Amsterdam, and the fashion shows on Saturday and Sunday. AFWA will be hosted by international soccer player, Tennyson Sonkey, international Award-winning movie stars Mike Ezuruonye and Ramsey Nouah.
Really looking forward to all these three days of AFWA with all the designers, celebraties, and the entertainment that will consist of Miss Bess, Nabil Nabstar, Petit Bagaza and Koloboyz. Come check it out if you’re in the neighbourhood.
