Meet the models of the first Caribbean fashion show at MBFWA

CFS-MBFWA websiteWeeks ago we’ve met the designers who are going to wow us with their stunning mid- high fashion designer pieces at the first Caribbean fashion show during Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Sadly, one of them has cancelled, so the show will go on with five designers instead of six. That should not stop the fun! Because this time I am gonna let you meet the next best thing after the gorgeous designs. The Caribbean and exotic looking models! Fashionistas at AFWA 2014

AFWA Fashionistas

Where there’s fashion week, there are the fashionistas. All dressed up and ready to go. At the first edition of Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam, held last month at the World Fashion Centre (WFC), it was not any different. Since it was all about African fashion you can imagine that most of these fashionistas pulled out their African ensembles to show off at the event and pose in front of the wall of fame. Of course I couldn’t resist getting these fabulous African inspired outfits on camera and took some snap shots of my favourite ones spotted on day 1 and day to of AFWA 2014. Stylish in H&M with a touch de l’Afrique at AFWA 2014

AFWA outfit

The first edition of Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam is a fact. Like you can read in my previous post “Africa Fashion Week is taking Amsterdam“, I attended the fashion shows, held in World Fashion Centre (WFC), to volunteer on day 1 and visited as press on day 2. From both days there are cover stories available in the posts about Preparation and Backstage, AFWA day 1 and AFWA day 2. While on day 1 I had my work outfit on, which was a simple black suit and a white blouse, on day 2 it was time to shine again.  Continue reading “Stylish in H&M with a touch de l’Afrique at AFWA 2014”

Dope street style at Kwaku Summer Festival in Amsterdam

Kwaku Podium

Kwaku Summer Festival is an annual Surinamese themed summer festival that is being held in Amsterdam Southeast (The Bijlmer) for a few weekends, on Saturday on Sunday, in a row. This used to be six weekends, but this year the festival was open for five weekends. From July 12 – August 10, visitors of Kwaku were able to enjoy good music, entertainment, shopping at different booths and of course good Surinamese food, and lots of it. Typical Surinamese dishes, snacks, pastry, drinks (Parbo Bier) and desserts are yours for the choosing. And a lot of BBQ. If you want a taste of the Surinamese culture Kwaku is the place to be. At Kwaku you can experience a little bit of Suriname without actually taking that trip all the way to South America. Besides Surinamese food and other Caribbean food, there is also African food and Dutch food and since it’s summer time you can find fresh tropical fruits and fruit juices at several fruit booths. Highlights of AFWA 2014 fashion shows day 2

20140831_200617

Day two of Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam in World Fashion Centre was more glitter and glamour since it was the day of the Gala Show.  This meant various fashion shows with beautiful designs of the more upscale African designers, of which you could see the difference with day one. Before the fashion shows started there were some speeches that didn’t go entirely as planned, leaving the presenter to improvise which he did well. After that the doors to the runway area were closed for the preparation of the first two fashion shows and there was time for a network and photo break. Then it was Gala Show time. Fashionable African singer Yemi Alade

Yemi-Alade-Tangerine-post

After Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam (AFWA 2014) I am so in the spirit of African fashion and African music, that while googling for Diana Tambe, the founder of AFWA, I stumbled on a music video by Yemi Alade. A beautiful 25 year old singer from Nigeria. This music video captured my attention right away. First thing I noticed: her outfits! Love it. And of course the song is nice too, it’s got that swinging African beat that makes you feel happy and wanna dance. Miss Yemi has got herself a new fan. You can imagine that I had to find out more about this Nigerian beauty and fashionista. Yemi was even a talked about topic on the Google hangout of USA’s first lady Michelle Obama and featured on MTV.com, so you know her music must be good. If you love the Afro dance movement, just watch. Continue reading “Fashionable African singer Yemi Alade”

Paramaribo a Fashion City

IMG-20140122-00792

In January this year, due to family circumstances, I went to Suriname. After one emotional week it was also time to enjoy the country and the big city: Paramaribo. As always I look for inspiration wherever I go. Last summer I was there also and I came back very inspired. This year I went out again to see what Paramaribo has to offer when it comes to fashion. If you think that Paramaribo is not a fashion city think again! Surinamese people love fashion and always try their best to look their best, and dress up to the fullest when they go out. In his post I like to share Paramaribo from a fashion point of view. Continue reading “Paramaribo a Fashion City”
