Dope street style at Kwaku Summer Festival in Amsterdam

Kwaku Podium

Kwaku Summer Festival is an annual Surinamese themed summer festival that is being held in Amsterdam Southeast (The Bijlmer) for a few weekends, on Saturday on Sunday, in a row. This used to be six weekends, but this year the festival was open for five weekends. From July 12 – August 10, visitors of Kwaku were able to enjoy good music, entertainment, shopping at different booths and of course good Surinamese food, and lots of it. Typical Surinamese dishes, snacks, pastry, drinks (Parbo Bier) and desserts are yours for the choosing. And a lot of BBQ. If you want a taste of the Surinamese culture Kwaku is the place to be. At Kwaku you can experience a little bit of Suriname without actually taking that trip all the way to South America. Besides Surinamese food and other Caribbean food, there is also African food and Dutch food and since it’s summer time you can find fresh tropical fruits and fruit juices at several fruit booths. 30 days before 30 years

1 't Vat 7

You probably wouldn’t guess it but in 30 days I will be turning the big three 0. A few years ago I thought I would have a problem turning 30 but now that it is near I don’t mind at all. Bring it on, new era, new challenges, new lessons, new life. The same me but with a different mindset. While many people may not know what they want to do with their lives at this age and often still wonder when they are way over 30, I know exactly what I want in life and most importantly from myself. Banging outfits in Bang Bang music video

bang-bang-music-video 2

Sometimes you see music videos where you just go wow on the total look of the singers. The clothes, the shoes, the accessories. Just the outfits. The fashion! In the new video of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj I thought just that. Wow! The printed skirt and leather bustier that complements Nicki’s curvacious figure, the dress with the slit on Jessie’s body, which suits her just perfect, the two piece pink and silver outfit of Ariana that makes her look sexy but classy. Highlights of AFWA 2014 fashion shows day 2

20140831_200617

Day two of Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam in World Fashion Centre was more glitter and glamour since it was the day of the Gala Show.  This meant various fashion shows with beautiful designs of the more upscale African designers, of which you could see the difference with day one. Before the fashion shows started there were some speeches that didn’t go entirely as planned, leaving the presenter to improvise which he did well. After that the doors to the runway area were closed for the preparation of the first two fashion shows and there was time for a network and photo break. Then it was Gala Show time. Happy 33rd Birthday Beyoncé

One of the most idolised singers in the world is celebrating today as we speak. The Queen B is Lucky to blow out 33 candles today as she celebrates her 33rd birthday. Wow! thirty plus and still looking as good as ever. Till today nobody has managed to get to the level of succes Beyoncé has for the past eleven years since she started her solo career. From her first album, which was brutally slammed by labels who didn’t think she had one hit single on it (luckily for her she proved them wrong), to an anthem that has hit the charts world wide and is now the ladies anthem of the century: Who run the world? Girls! Continue reading “Happy 33rd Birthday Beyoncé”

Fashionable African singer Yemi Alade

Yemi-Alade-Tangerine-post

After Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam (AFWA 2014) I am so in the spirit of African fashion and African music, that while googling for Diana Tambe, the founder of AFWA, I stumbled on a music video by Yemi Alade. A beautiful 25 year old singer from Nigeria. This music video captured my attention right away. First thing I noticed: her outfits! Love it. And of course the song is nice too, it’s got that swinging African beat that makes you feel happy and wanna dance. Miss Yemi has got herself a new fan. You can imagine that I had to find out more about this Nigerian beauty and fashionista. Yemi was even a talked about topic on the Google hangout of USA’s first lady Michelle Obama and featured on MTV.com, so you know her music must be good. If you love the Afro dance movement, just watch. Continue reading “Fashionable African singer Yemi Alade”

Monday Inspiration: Do something totally different

We all have those moments where we ask ourselves if what we are doing is fulfilling enough and if we like it as much as we tell ourselves. Most of the time it can be work and career related, but also private. That’s why you sometimes need to take a step back from your daily routine and test the waters. Today I have a personal quote … Continue reading Monday Inspiration: Do something totally different

Anniversary, 11 years a vegetarian

IMG-20140524-04838

Today is exactly 11 years ago I started my vegetarian lifestyle. It was an idea I had going on in my head for a long time before actually doing it. When I decided that I was really going to do it, I wanted it to be on a day that I could also remember and that’s why I choose September 1. Because on this day I also started my study Nutrition and Dietetics and figured it would be a great way to start a new lifestyle altogether. Fresh out of high school, new into college and a new healthy way of eating. Not that eating meat is not healthy, I just prefer a vegetable diet and I never was a big fan of meat and fish to begin with. That made it easier for me to step into my new lifestyle.
