Ten days ago American Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour revealed that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West will be covered on the April issue of Vogue magazine. She describes them as #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple on the cover. Since I am a fan of Kim’s style, and really like the Kimye couple, I was excited to find this out online last week. As I saw the cover for the first time I was curious to find out what has been reported on this news so far. So I went online to vogue.com and then got my google on.
And there you have it: the now already infamous Kimye Vogue cover:
As you can expect there is also a massive crowd that isn’t too thrilled about this news, including actress Sarah Michelle Gellar who tweeted: “Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???” The cover has even got comedians Seth Rogan and James Franco to do a parody cover, with Seth Rogen tweeted: “It had to be done”. (CBS News.com) Major backlash on this cover can be found all over the internet. Just google Kim and Kanye Vogue cover and you will see.
As every month Anna Wintour writes her editor’s letter in the issue, and if she knew she had to defend this month’s choice even more she says in the letter:
Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)
Due to rumours that Kanye had to do some major convincing miss Wintour also stated:
As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.
She goes on saying that Kim and Kanye both earned it to be on the cover:
There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason: Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.
In the years that I have followed Vogue and Anna Wintour’s choices I’d say she never does anything she doesn’t want to. And putting Kim and Kanye on the cover is no exception. Kim and Kanye also had a photo shoot at Vogue for the issue, and had their photographs taken by Annie Leibovitz.
Some photo’s from the Vogue photo shoot as seen on the Vogue website:

The couple was clearly thankful and happy about their Vogue cover and gladly shared the news on twitter. Kim tweeted that Friday along with a picture of the magazine: “This is such a dream come true!!! Thank you @VogueMagazine for this cover! O M GGGGGG!!! I can’t even breath.” Kanye tweeted: “#TRILL Thank you @voguemagazine.”
Congratulations Kimye! Well done.
My personal opinion on the Kim and Kanye Vogue cover I will give in the next post.
